Zitat
I was finally able to install succesfully. I had to move the zip file to a top level folder, then it installed successfully. Example - Create a temporary folder called C:\amapi or whatever you like. Place the zip file in this folder, unzip and install.
Let me introduce myself, for those of you who don't know me. I'm Thomas, administrator of Eovia3D.net, where you can download Amapi 6, for both PC and Macintosh.
These two application have been tested after been online and have been tested again today. Both of them downloaded fine and have any problem to install on PC (XP PRO SP2) and Mac (10.4 under classic 9.2)
I think if you had any problems, it may come from an incomplete archive, due to a download problem. I checked the log, any disconnection from the last couple of week on the server. Then, the problem may come from your side. The only problem wich happen on these files was about the Mac version, from a stuffit compression parameters and corrected a long time ago. Another problem can be happen on PC, but Stefan gave you the answer, it's a Windows problem.
you also have to know that Eovia3D.net is my -personnal- website, and not Eovia one. If you have any problems with it, then, feel free to contact me directly. If a problem happen their, Eovia has nothing to do with it, and if you want to flame someone, it's me, not Eovia!
And Dominik (who told me enough that I was his "friend", remeber...?) know me enough to contact me if you have any problem about my website.
Thank you for your comprehension about these "problems"
also ich kann stef_eovia und Thomas nur zustimmen. Auf meinem PC mit XP Home lief die Installation und der anschließende Programmstart problemlos ab - und das obwohl mein Rechner im moment ziemlich zugemüllt ist...
let me share some concern ... why I was annoyed to hear this.
a) If I talk to friends or people who wants to dive into 3D I ask them what they want to do with 3D. When it fits to Eovia's software I told them - try it and buy it. Because I think the software is great for special groups of users. Nice features, easy to use and a great renderer. What do you think if they make a download and nothing works proper?
b) Thanks for your offer to contact you, in case if installation failed. But I think it has nothing to do with the domain, it depends on the file I downloaded. I can't believe that you offer a file for download that Eovia isn't knowning about. So, if you know there will be some issues with the installtion, why you don't give a short note on the download page - just a note!
c) When the issue is knowing there ist a MUST (in my opinion) to told this to the users.
This is the way you can show them that the user is the most important "thing"! And you take care about the users.
I'm really sorry when I talk in this hard way, but I'm feel really unhappy to see people say: WHAT KIND OF SOFTWARE IS THAT - I EVEN CAN'T INSTALL IT!!
And you can avoid this, just with a note!
Kind regards Wolfgang
//Edit: By the way: If find it is a good job to make it happen for users to download software for free. - but please take care of the users.
hello Thomas, all this has nothing to do with you or http://www.eovia3d.net,your site is great and i always liked being there when i was using eovia software. im going that far to say that you still are my friend, there are no personal attacks against you(im not like shonner if you can remember) and no badmouthing. lets say that at the time when i was using carrara 4 pro and nothing worked like the lwo import, some export problems and crashes while rendering,i contacted the support and never recieved any email with a solution i started to get mad at eovia cause i really i trusted in the work of eovia.i would say that i was a good customer and always tried to support carrara and amapi(eovia) in every forum i was, most of the time over at renderosity and a couple of other forums(they hate me cause i use lightwave),i always told everyone how good eovia software is and how easy and so on but after i had so many problems and no answers from the support i started to overthink everything.i think you know how it is if you like something and do everything to support what you like and then you get nothing back,no thank you or a solution for the problems i had with carrara.
i can say i overdid it,yes,im not fair, the reason is when im angry i cant think clearly and so i did what i did.
you know me Thomas,i was never badmouthing eovia software before or said anything bad about you,i also will never talk shit about you and your great forum(btw, great design) this is not the right way.sometimes i miss the cool times i had when i was one of the hexagon beta testers and your your french accent.:)
im sorry if i was attacking you in any way, cause like i said i see you as a friend and i was never talking about the things you said me via email.
im still very angry about the problems i had with carrara 4 pro,i know it is wrong to think that now every eovia product is =bad=. since hexagon i know how much work you and the other eovia guys have to do,im sorry if i freaked out.but the carrara problem made me crazy and also getting no answers.
if it is a windows bug then fuck microsoft and sorry EOVIA.
Ok, here are my 5 cents. First of all, you two seem to be nice, understanding and even intelligent people. So nothing against you nor against eovia.net. It's a fine thing for sure.
But in this forum are some people who are frankly pissed of with Eovia software, people who invested lots of money just to change then to other products. Me, for example, I started with Amapi Designer 7, it was the only affordable tool I found to solve a certain problem for a customer. Up to then I was certainly interested in 3D and always had thought, that this would be something I'd like to work with if I could spare the time. I didn't know anything about it. Because there was no renderer anymore, I bought Carrara Studio 3, just one day before the announcement of C4 (grr, but nobodys fault). And then I was hooked to 3d (and not just for a hobby, i use it for my work, too). I got Carrara 4 Pro, Amapi Pro (why? because the Designer was so buggy I couldn't really work with) and then Hexagon. So, I'm a good customer, too, I would say (I own some plugins, too). You see, I did trust in Eovia, I put money in this trust - and I still was learning and learnig. But the more complex my projects got, the more problems I had with the software. I even had to fight it. And in this fight I was not alone - all the problems are mentioned somewhere in this forum (I had some export problems with Amapi Pro, too. It works fine with Carrara but not always with something else, even the patched version). And then I learned something completely new and different: There is affordable software around which actually works with models a bit more complicated. Even exporting isn't a problem.
So I actually was pissed off (and keep beeing even if I had lots of patience), as there are several things about Eovia-Products I don't like:
1. Even patched there are buggy. Even Hexagon has still some bugs (and the way you have to confirm the numbers after putting them in is just plain nonsense). It could be a truly great software it it would be finetuned a bit. It was a good thing to make the update free, by the way.
2. The support doesn't work. One gets a solution only if one writes something about those problems in a forum for everyone to read (and not too friendly. There is only a reaction if there is serious damage to the Eovia-PR).
3. Some of the problems are not solved anyway. I don't buy C5 (I don't trust Eovia anymore), so I will never be able to export correctly to lwo, 3ds and so on (there are even some issues with obj) or to import those formats. As was mentioned in the chat at 3dps, those import & export problems are not considered an important issue for C4.
4. I got the impression the products are not finished when sold. Today, that's not unusual (but more for games than graphic software). I don't like this attitude but when Eovia works this way, it should produce patches fast and even faster - until at least that functions work which are (or were) mentioned big-mouthed in the advertising on the eovia-web page (for example the export to and import from several formats). There should be updates for C4, Amapi Pro 7.5 and Hexagon until they work like promised. And no, as a customer I shouldn't to do the beta-testing, shouldn't write problem reports and lose even more time than I did with doing models over and over again till I get what I need.
5. There was and probably is something wrong about the marketing (it's the theme of some older threads in here). I wouldn't buy C5 now (if I would anyway) as there is probably a big christmas sale planned.
See, it would have been much cheaper for me to stay with eovia-products instead investing anew in an other software solution. I did it, because I lost my trust in Eovia completely.
And, well, I'm one person, one of the customers, but what I wrote is certainly true for some others (and others who aren't even aware of this forum) and those are some of the reasons why the bilance sheet looks as it looks (and probably not as good as it could. I'm sure of that. I would bet on it).
I hope, you two understand now a little bit better, why some people get angry when problems arise with downloads. It's nothing against both of you, especially not against eovia.net. But you two probably can't change what bugs me and others.
With kind regards
DrZen
P.S.: And no, I don't even expect someone to read carefully what I wrote.
I think Carrara was designed for 3D-newcomer. It is very easy to handle, but if you are learning more and grow into 3D-Szene, you see what is possible with other aplication and then you have to change your software.
The .car-Format can't be imported with nearly all well known 3D-Tools, except a few (and these few are importing a lot of errors).
But exporting something out of Carrara is nearly impossible without having lost textures or mesh-information. (animation export is not possible at all, I think)
So you are getting stucked in .car-Format and you can not increase your 3D-abilities by using other apllications.
I will not buy Carrara 5 because I changed to Caligari's TrueSpace. I hope that my problems with exporting and importing 3D-objects will be solved by this decision.
Ok, Hexagon is a very good modelling tool, but I wonder how it was possible to update it and some functions of 1.0 are buggy in 1.2 so that for example you could not fix the position of an object by entering coordinates.
Contact to eovia is very friendly and you will receive fast answers, but you will have to wait very long for the solution of your problems. (sometimes forever! we discussed very often my problems with Carrara 4 Pro in this forum)
Maybe you're right, Buffoli. But in the advertising it's a tool for professionals.
Hexagon: I don't remember having the problem with coordinates with the old version. At least the coordinate-problem with the size is new to 1.2 (and often enough I work with an exact size. Now you have to confirm every number with a leftclick in the object display. Tab or return isn't enough. Exact this was what I meant with "nonsense").
And nice to read that something with the support did change meanwhile.
Greetings
DrZen
Dr.Zen,i also was a good customer i had carrara 2,carrara 3,carrara 4 pro, amapi designer 7,amapi pro 7,amapi pro 7.5,hexagon and i had nearly all really all plugins for carrara,i also was treated as a fanboy cause i liked pushing eovia software cause the software gave me all i needed but when i needed help from eovia i became nothing, the reason for my anger.anyway,i think you see maybe why im really pissed off like you,but it is enough for now cause im hungry and all is a finished chapter for me,if i get carrara for a super price, then maybe eovia software will be back on my monster computer but i think not.
